Book Club

Aspire Yoga Book Club!

The Aspire Yoga Center community is growing and the vibe is good y’all. Many of you have asked, craved, inquired about ways to deepen your practice and we want this conversation to grow. We aspire to give you more to support your yoga practice — whether it’s classes, personal attention or access to more yoga knowledge through books. We’re super excited to be continuing this yoga book club in 2017!

The book club is free to participate in and open to everyone regardless of yoga experience. We would love for YOU to be part of it. All you need is an interest in learning more about yoga!

The next book we will be reading is “Krishnamacharya: His Life and Teachings” by A.G. Mohan.

Do you ever wonder about the history of modern yoga? Then don’t miss out on reading this book. It’s very accessible, easy to understand and is less than 150 pages.

This book pays tribute to “the father of modern yoga” Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya (1888–1989), written by one of his longtime followers. Krishnamacharya was a renowned Indian yoga master, Ayurvedic healer, and scholar who modernized yoga practice and whose students—including B. K. S. Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois, T. K. V. Desikachar, and Indra Devi—dramatically popularized yoga in the West.

In this book, the author, draws on his own memories and Krishnamacharya’s diaries and recorded material, to present a fascinating view of the man and his teachings, and Mohan’s own warm and inspiring relationship with the master. This portrait of the great teacher will be a compelling and informative read for yoga teachers and students who truly want to understand the source of their tradition and practice.

We do not sell the book; please purchase from any source you wish. It’s available wherever books are sold, including both new and used on Amazon and digitally on Kindle, Nook and ebooks.com.

We will be meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 7-8:15pm at our Bossier City studio. There will be time to mingle and discuss the book as well as a brief meditation. No prior meditation experience is needed; we’ll guide you right through exactly what to do.

Please note, the 7pm Hot Yoga class in Bossier that evening will be canceled.

Aspire Yoga Center in Bossier City at 3709 Benton Rd. The studio is located just one mile north of 220. Pull into the Louisiana Power Sports parking lot and the studio is located directly behind Shelter Insurance.

Aspire Yoga Center is all about community and learning. Our book club is a way to come together and support the education of yoga. We are laid back and here to support each other on our journeys.
