Back to Basics

January is one of my very favorite times of the year. With the start of a New Year, it’s full of possibilities and a clean slate to make new goals to strive towards throughout the year ahead.

I’ve taken time to get clear on how I want 2016 to look and have decided this will be the year for me to get back to the basics. To slow down and make the basics a first priority before moving to things that aren’t essential. I want to make less senseless errors in the year ahead and feel that getting back to basics is what will help make that happen.

I have found that sharing my intention with a few close friends helps me to stay accountable. So I want to share with you how I plan to make my intention to get back to the basics more tangible.

Nutrition
Eat more whole, unprocessed foods that will help to nourish my body and keep me healthy.

Physical activity
Move my body in some way for a minimum of 30 minutes every day.

Mental health
Make my daily meditation practice a priority.
Take time for myself when I notice my energy level requires it.
Read 12 books during the year.

Work life
SLOW DOWN and finish a task before moving on to the next one (easier said than done for me!).
Re-read everything I write out loud before hitting send, hopefully to cut down on typos!

Spiritual life
I find that gratitude brings me closer to God and will take time every day to count my blessings and thank Him for all He provides.
Yoga is also a spiritual practice for me and will continue to study as a student so I continue to grow.

What do you aspire to do in 2016 to make it an amazing year? Have you set an intention or any courageous goals? I’d love to hear from you. And if yoga happens to be part of your plan, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help support you in your journey.
